Als Alternative zu externen ADSL-Modems gibt es die Möglichkeit, ADSL-WIC (Wan Interface Card) zu verwenden.
WIC-1ADSL-Varianten
Achtung, kein ADSL2+! — maximal 8 MBit/s downstream, in Deutschland bedeutet das über die Telekom maximal 6 MBit/s, Arcor bietet bis zu 8 MBit/s.
- ADSL over POTS (WIC-1ADSL) für analoge Telefonie wie z. B. in Großbritannien. Äquivalent zum integrierten Modem im Cisco 837-Router. Supports and complies with ANSI T1.413 Issue 2, and ITU G.992.1, Annex A (G.DMT for full-rate ADSL over POTS).
- ADSL over ISDN WAN with Dying Gasp support (WIC-1ADSL-I-DG) für den Einsatz bspw. in Deutschland. Äquivalent zum integrierten Modem im Cisco 836-Router. Allows the coexistence of ADSL and ISDN on the same local loop; supports and complies with ITU G.992.1, Annex B (G.DMT for full-rate ADSL over ISDN), ETSI 101-388, and the Deutsche Telekom U-R2 specification.
- Support auf allen Plattformen ausser 3600 (lt. Cisco-Specs).
Konfiguration für Deutsche Telekom ADSL
Die Konfiguration ist im Endeffekt analog zum integrierten Modem im Cisco 83x. Am Dial-Pool klemmt dann wiederum ein Dialer, der die PPP-Thematik übernimmt.

HWIC-1ADSL-Varianten
- HWIC-1ADSL supports ADSL-over-POTS (wie z. B. in Großbritannien) (ADSL, ADSL2, and ADSL2+), complying with Annex A of ITU G.992.1, G.992.3, and G.992.5. Äquivalent zum integrierten Modem im Cisco 877-Router.
- HWIC-1ADSLI supports ADSL-over-ISDN (ADSL, ADSL2, and ADSL2+) für den Einsatz bspw. in Deutschland, complying with Annex B of ITU G.992.1, G.992.3, and G.992.5. It also supports and complies with ETSI 101-388 and the Deutsche Telekom U-R2 specification. Äquivalent zum integrierten Modem im Cisco 876-Router.
- HWIC-1ADSL and HWIC-1ADSLI support reach-extended ADSL2, complying with Annex L of ITU G.992.3.
- HWIC-1ADSL and HWIC-1ADSLI comply with ANSI T1.413 issue 2.
- HWIC-1ADSL and HWIC-1ADSLI support ATM AAL5 services and applications, ATM class of service (constant bit rate [CBR], variable bit rate-nonreal time [VBR-nrt], variable bit rate-real time [VBR-rt], and unspecified bit rate [UBR]), and up to 23 virtual circuits on an HWIC in Cisco routers.
- HWIC-1ADSL and HWIC-1ADSLI provide ATM traffic management and Quality of Service (QoS) features to enable service providers to manage their core ATM network infrastructures.
- HWIC-1ADSL and HWIC-1ADSLI support Dying Gasp functionality.
